A great day with the grands

Started with a trip to Chase's pancake corral

We spotted this in the parking lot

Never too old for art work

Never too young for pancakes

A walk in the mall... a stop at the bath bomb spot

Alfie loves attention
He lives with his 92 year old lady

Grampy to the rescue and
then to the basketball court up the street

Seldom get the privilege to hear his favorite

It was a long and lovely night at friends for a picnic

Starting a new day
A name to remember

I picked one with bacon
It lasted three days

a lesson

A new word... a lesson...call it what you like

             or I might ask....

What do you call this?

First of all, it was a gift.  My niece handed me this beautiful bouquet on the 4th of July and when I got home I found the perfect vase for it.    6 days ago, it was little bigger and brighter, but

                                      You get the picture

So, did you say....this is a nosegay !

One of my daughters had never heard of this word. Let's say, she did not remember hearing this word.   Little man who was visiting was surprised at the word  ( we are not going to write about that )  I checked it out with Wikipedia and sure enough,

a small bouquet of two or three flowers that smell sweet is a nosegay

The following day little man, his mommy and auntie met me for lunch at a very cute little place.   I spotted several little vases on the window sill and set one on our table.

Little man asked... is this a nosegay?

Well, according to Wikipedia it is not, but according the Grammy, we have a very amazing grandson

In passing

My exercise these days is walking in the mall
   (  no purchases
usually)

It is safer ( no bumps in the pavement) but if I do fall, someone is sure to pick me up
   (
three friends took a tumble, right close to home. One fell flat on her nose, and it broke. Another fell right onto pots on the dock and messed up her face. My sister fell almost in front of her front door and got bruised up head to toe, no broken bones )

Today I saw a little gal come out of a store and slip down beside a gentleman ( maybe a grandpa) She snuggled up to him. He was looking at his phone.

I kept walking and came back around the corner. The two of them were still sitting side by side.. he was still on his phone
( I never want to miss an opportunity to snuggle with my grands )

Stopped for a bowl of soup, and at a table nearby was a Mom and her little boy.  They were still waiting for their lunch.  Suddenly the little fellow burst into tears.  Mother said " don't ever bite me".

The little fellow responded, but I could not hear.

( The expression on his face said that his Mom had done something first..maybe touched his cup or something else of his.. not just a guilty look, a hurt look  )

Oh, and Mother was looking at her phone.  Their meal came and things were calm.  Mother smiled. oh wait, she was looking at her phone.
As I finished and walked by their table..sure enough, he was enjoying mac and cheese.
"How did I know you were eating mac and cheese" I said.  He just giggled and hid his face.  His mother laughed and said "It's his favorite"

( when little people giggle it makes me smile )

It is best not to judge...but to listen and learn and grow
 (
I am still in the process, but trying )

Not just another day

A day spent with my youngest grand

           It doesn't happen often enough

And when it does, I set aside any other plans

He was just a little hungry when he arrived so our first stop was

        Chase's Pancake Corral

His favorite..chocolate chip pancakes, and now he qualifies for the adult menu

My favorite is bacon. This time I added hash browns to the very tasty waffle.

Not sure why the rose was at the end of the table, so we moved it between us.

Next, a drive down to Bellevue Square.  He had some questions for the lady at Lush, and she was very nice

He has already done some research and planning on making his own "soap bombs" and selling them, too.

We also stopped at the candy store. I will not name it because the salesman seemed to think we should already know the answers to our questions ( grand's evaluation )

As we ride along we are singing..the books of the Bible...almost have the old Testament mastered.

A few more stops and then back to our neighborhood.  Our neighbor has taken a tumble and appreciates our visits and attention to her dog

Everyone seemed pretty content..the boy, the dog, his lady

Time to head home for lunch and then giving a helping hand to Grampy... unloading the pick up

Working together... love it

All too soon Mama comes for her boy

But, Grammy has had a stellar day with her youngest Grand. Looking forward to our next date. Can't come too soon

At the end of the day, both of us, Grampy and Grammy, think that this young man has matured and become more thoughtful, helpful, and obedient. Sound like bragging? Grandma's can do that.

Father's Day

 But not just Father's Day

It is Sunday,  the Lord's Day

It is a day that we come together to Worship

This Sunday we join some friends at the church that is very close to our home

It is not like where I grew up and where we raised our family.
But they preach the true Word of God and we love that.

While this is the House of the Lord, many are wearing the same thing they wear when they go grocery shopping.
I do not.  Even in Covid, I dressed for Sunday, made a Sunday dinner and we even took a Sunday drive.

The world around has changed
         God's Word has not
Many friends keep their distance
          The Lord is always near

We are aware of the hard times, painful, ongoing
And Jesus always gives us something
           to be thankful for, always

What a friend we have in Jesus

Garage Sale

It happens every year and it is always on Father's Day weekend.

Though we are still setting up, it all starts about 365 days prior.  We start putting things aside that we want to part with and mark them, so when the day comes, the rest is "grunt work" and fun.

We are usually a trio, Tiffany (daughter), Barb (sister) and me.  but this year, my sister got "you know what".  We missed her, but we carried on and a good friend, Amanda, joined us.

Maybe you can tell by now that we love this event. We don't get rich, but we always see some interesting people and just have a fun time. We seldom set aside time to just be together, so this puts that into play.

Friday morning
( Tiffany  and Amy (neighbor) set out early to put up very good signs )

This is a neighborhood project, so several other garages are open and ready for "company"

Early on, we have a feeling how the day is going to go.  Slow. Quite slow. There is a drizzle almost all day.

Would you get out to do garage saleing in the rain?      Thought so.

We were delighted when our friends, Al and Judy  from Renton, came by. We pulled up some chairs, made coffee and ate maple bars.  The highlight of the day.

At closing, we were praying that Saturday would at least be clear.  Amanda told us that two weeks ago when she had a garage sale, on Friday, she earned $5.   We did better than that, but we are not going to brag

We usually go to Red Robin for dinner and..

Regardless of the proceeds for the day, we celebrate

Saturday
No rain.  Not a drop.  So we move things out into the driveway and the customers start moving in.

Favorites purchase details

Disney car croc..only one, a demo from a sample sale.  Who would buy one shoe?
A Dad...he said his son had loved that shoe and had at least two pairs, so he wanted it for the memory.
( daughter and friend looked at each other and me in disbelief, but that is how garage sales surprise you)

We appreciated meeting Virage Sale secretary
She was our favorite kind of shopper. She took her time and paused here and there to examine a few things.  Then she took everything out of the kitchen tool basket

She found some things that needed a name and we googled them and she bought some and, well, that was fun.

Golf balls. collected at the park and along the road here and there ( it's a long story)  All cleaned up, labeled and priced, by the dozen.
A lady was checking them out (finally) so I called out
" golf balls are half price today"   I saw her looking at the prices and mumbling. I said

 "$3. a dozen"
She said " $2. a dozen"

 I said "sold"
So, she came up with two dozen and $4.
Not more than 5 minutes later a gentleman came up with two dozen and $20.

He said "$10. a dozen"
I said "Thank you"

A couple young gals were excited for vintage clothes ( probably about 30 years old )

3:30 Hubby arrives. Help with breakdown ! Yes !

The final scene:

The sale is over at 4:00, but the doors stay open while we are packing up.
A few more customers browse and leave, but two men keep looking.
When my Tiffany  and family left for a party, it was 4:30.
The men were still looking around. Hubby  is helping to load up the car.
I planted myself by the money box and answered questions. Would we take less for this or that.
At least 30 minutes have past and they had found very little.
What about the bag, large old bag, right on the money table?   Yes, it was for sale $1.00

( this bag was filled with the " no sale" items headed to good will, so I  emptied it )
Along with the bag he wanted one of the caps $0.50, and a cell phone frame for $0.50.
Was anything on on the shelf behind me for sale?
No!
And then a  "charger" for cell phones they wanted for $2.00. No, it is priced $3.00. They went to their car for a cord, it worked, so they paid $3.00 and very leisurely walked to their car.

I take the money box and head inside. Even now, thinking about it, I am feeling  anxious.

About 15 minutes later we are packed up and secure. I slipped over to Amy,  our favorite neighbor just to say goodbye... she had seen the men, gave me a big hug,  and I followed the big blue pick up home

Another Garage Sale in the books !

End of story

Celebration of Life

a Life well lived....

This is a great picture of a great young man...lifted up to heaven too soon.

We still live across the street from the home where Tyler was born and grew up.  Our family knew him pretty well.  In fact, there were times when it felt like Tyler lived at our house, he knew he was always welcome.

There is a part of his story that is hard.

His memorial was last Saturday and was beautiful.

The weather was beautiful, the sky was clear and the sun  was glorious
location was ideal, lots of patio and many open doors
 for standing room only
as many friends and family gathered to Celebrate Tyler's life

Jan, his Mom, was the first to take the stage. ( she is an actress, but her message was "for real" )
She shared from her heart, some of the hard things that Tyler endured. Early in his life he developed a brain tumor. He lost his hair. He did not look like the other kids. His vision was severely  impaired.   Kids can be cruel.  And they were. Actions that we never want to hear, but, they took place and were good for us to remember
Jan also told us about his accomplishments...some that even those of us with full vision have not done, but he was ready to try just about anything.  He excelled in many things

Jan read a wonderful message from Pastor Katy, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church.  The church, especially the women ( that was repeated, so it must be true) loved and welcomed Tyler. They welcomed him into their church and into their hearts. Since it was just across the street from his next address, I can only imagine how many times he entered their doors.

I say that because during those years that Tyler lived across the street, he was in our home and in our life, like family.
Tyler's family was strong Catholic and our family was strong Protestant. One day Tyler and I had a conversation... We agreed, we believe in the same God, the same Jesus and that He is the way of salvation.  So I know that I will see him again.

But...until then,  we have memories.

Yes, Tyler was like part of our family.  He seemed to know when a party was going on, and he was there.  He knew his way to the front door and the back, he might even come in without knocking...he knew he was always welcome.

A memory from Mimi, in his class    " I remember that school year ( 5th grade I think?) being keenly aware that he might not make it through the year.  And he did.  And every year following just felt like a gift.  A constant reminder of life, it's frailty and the existence of miracles, walking among us "

Tyler was a fighter. Many hard times were ahead, but he stayed positive. He was a hard worker and kept up quite a pace even when life got more difficult.
He stayed happy and content with life.

There is still a little bag by our front door where I slip key chains to add to his collection
He had over 4,000 !

But more than key chains, Tyler collected friends.  There is a verse in the Bible that says Jesus was no respecter of persons...that was Tyler.  He did not care about your background, your status, your age, he cared about You !.

After he moved away, his connecting was on the phone. Along with remembering  every birthday and some anniversaries, he kept us up to date on his family.

He loved his family.  He was proud of his family and eager to share what was happening in their lives.
He would also let us know about the neighbor or friend he ran into at a husky game, or just out and about.

His hearing was amazing.  He could pick up a familiar voice anywhere.
His memory was amazing.
His laughter was amazing.  That little ( and sometimes not so little ) chuckle,  so Tyler, so connected to who he was
Tyler had a style all his own.

Just a few more reflections from our family.
Steel trap memory.
His hearing was shocking. It was impeccable for sure
He was never at a loss for conversation
His laugh was uninhibited, in fact he seemed to have lived uninhibited
He just lived.
He was comfortable in our home, he would just walk in like he lived here
He was part of the family, always

Next up was Scott. He lived right around the block and was also in Tyler's grade.  In the past few years they spent valuable time together.  Scott would pick him up and they would enjoy a meal or snack together and then... Tyler loved telling jokes.  Sometimes the same as before, but still bringing laughs.
He also shared the memory of hard things that Tyler had to overcome.   They stayed friends till the end.

A coworker from the Lighthouse  for the blind. Dana had also heard Tyler's jokes. They had worked side by side for quite a while

Mazzy Eckel, Tyler's niece, loved her Uncle. She had visited him on his very last day. She had skipped school to be with him.

We closed with the Prayer of St Francis of Assisi

It was a sweet time of sharing

Each of us were privileged  to take home one of Tyler's key chains

I took two... The Seahawk..we are fans
and the simple blue band.
It reminds me that simple things can bring pleasure
for Tyler and for us all

we were not ready to say goodbye to Tyler
