it is asking too much to expect the cashier at McDonald's,   to

say hello

maybe smile

after all, he has not read my mind

he does not know what I want to order

let alone who I am and that I am a grandma that thinks when you are in food service you should approach your customer, the one who is helping to pay your wages,  with a smile,  is it asking too much   ?

For the books....

Something that will never happen again..


Here is what happened:

Little man came over to spend the night. Mom  ( youngest daughter ) said," Oh, I just remembered I have a book on hold at the library - today is the last day, Oh well "

I said, " No problem, we can go to the library. It doesn't close for 45 minutes"

So we went.

Found the book for my girl.
" The Year of Less"

I remembered I might have a DVD on hold, so I checked under my name and..
a book was waiting for me
"The Year of Less"

Yep, the same book.  It had been on hold so long, I had forgotten about it. And I only wanted to read it because my girl was interested in it.   And the notice they sent to tell me it was here  ( there ) was sent to our old and non working email.   ( Got that taken care of, pronto )

I am sure that will never happen again


I started reading it....still in the beginning of her life. Reading more like an autobiography.
 From the cover, it might be similar to the book I started reading a year ago..
." The life changing magic of Tiding up " 
 I got to the chapter on books...not easy.

pretty exciting   

something fun

It started two weeks ago.

I asked the little guys across the street to help me take scones and flowers to some of the neighbors

Here is the picture I shared then.

So this Saturday, we did it again. We went to neighbors on the other side of the street.   It was really nice to see the faces of people who live so close, but tend to drive into their garages and then we never see them again.

Well, this afternoon, one of the neighbors, and her two children came to our door. They had a tote bag and pulled out a package of cookies.   They gave us their names and contact information.

They had lots of smiles and though I cannot pronounce any of the family names, except Ariana,  I feel like we have made a special connection.   This is getting more fun all the time.   

I live an exciting life   !  

monopoly

at Safeway.... did you play the game?

Monopoly does not require a lot of skill  -   you take what you get

so I got
(with the help of favorite son, and the final day when the checkers were happy to give small stacks of monopoly game pieces )

One sour cream
seven gravy mixes
three animal crackers ( snack size )
10 tomato sauces ( 8 oz. ..very hard to find )
four donuts ( or bagels )
two potato salads
two  pack of 4 AAA batteries
two aspirin ( bottle of 100 )
one frozen waffles ( grands love these )
two $5.00 gift cards

almost a new car
close to a college education
one short of dream vacation


all in all, worth the minutes ( ok, hours opening and checking those babies )
And most were just in time for the 'Postman food drive" 


One gift card to favorite son and one for....later

may is for

Mother's Day 

mine started on Friday
my little friends across the street came over with hands full of flowers

Then on Saturday I was gone for a bit and came home to at least 5 bouquets  

All created by hubby 

Then a trip to AAA to pick out a new suitcase
      ( ordered a red one.  my travel color ) 

Sunday, the actual Mother's Day

Home from a wonderful BBQ dinner, time with friends and family, carrying two hanging baskets and an orchid.

A phone call from the missing family to end the day

but not the celebration 

Package arrived today...

questions..
1. How long will the plants live?
    ( they need constant watering )
2. how long with the candy delights last?
    ( coconut, key lime, chocolate )
3. How long will it take to work off some calories?
    ( BBQ ribs, salads, lemon drop cake, etc. )
4.  How long will the memories stay in my heart?
    ( Family, friends, food, fare weather )

Happy month of May

For years I have kept the May Day tradition.

take a little bouquet of flowers to the neighbors door,
    ring the bell,
      hide
   watch the happy lady discover the surprise and look around
( usually hears a few giggles from the little folk with me )

But this year, it did not happen.

So, on Saturday, I decided.

 Why not celebrate  another day in  May -

So, the little fellows across the street came along with me
    I told their mother  the truth,  I am a little shy, so I wanted some support
   She said " they are not shy"

And they aren't.   They even told a couple neighbors that they came along with me because
   " She is shy"

It all worked good.
