           Holiday Weekend

Feeling the urge to be patriotic, I chose  red, white and blue  colors to wear.  I didn’t have a red cardigan, so I wore a slip over sweater and headed to the mall to buy myself a red cardigan.  Practical. Matches my car and kitchen.   You would probably want to wear red for the memorial weekend too.

Well, if you do not have a red cardigan, forget about it.
                Red is out of season.
Stopped at Nordstom. Even asked for help, but no red . Period.  The color for the season is coral.   The word  has  gotten around because there were no red sweaters at Macy’s.
J. Jill,  Talbot’s,  Banana  Republic,  or Ann Taylor.
I also checked out the shoes, but did not find any red shoes.  Then I remembered that I have a pair of red shoes at home. Well, I have 3 or 4 pairs of red shoes. Wait, I forgot sandals.  If you need red shoes, you can borrow a pair from me.    Then we will all look patriotic for the holiday.

And I do have great respect for the real meaning of this holiday.  Especially, Monday, the day  we consider to be Memorial Day.

But, I also have a respect for the original Memorial Day, my birthday.  We always had my birthday off from school, May 30. And I never had to go to work on my birthday May 30.  Then I got married and I think that was when it changed.  Not my birthday, but Memorial Day. It is now always on a Monday and seldom on my birthday.
That was when my mother made lemon meringue pie and we went on a picnic to Lincoln Park with our cousins.  My mother did not teach me how to make lemon meringue pie,
but I happen to know at least 4 people who can make a mean lemon meringue pie.
Most of them are not on facebook, so there is no need to think I am hinting.
Why would I hint for someone to make me a lemon meringue pie for my  birthday ?   My friends John and Janet gave me one last month, and it is in the freezer.  If you come over, I will make coffee and we can celebrate together

If you still want to be patriotic, pull out your red white and blue silverware.
You do have red white and blue silverware don’t you?

Have a happy holiday weekend.

Red or no red, celebrate !

An evening out

we have been there before, maybe you have too
they feature very good  Chinese dishes
and a lovely artifical tree with apples

It might have been because I had just raised my hanky to my nose that I noticed something hanging from our servers nose.
Was I going to lose my appetite?  Perhaps it was a growth. Poor fellow.   I focused on those lovely prawns, pea pods and I was smiling again.

Sorry for the fuzzy photo.
There was plenty to bring home in those cute little boxes.
    No fortune cookies.
      No growth
        Oh well.

It happened tonight...

Good News for about 150 little people

It takes a while to get ready, and some shopping, but every year I look forward to  October 31

These little people come to my door and smile.   I  take their  picture  and give them
a little bag of treats. There is also a gospel story inside each bag.

This year everyone got the same tract.  "The Rest of His Time"  By  our friend Berwick.
So, I can explain there is a true story in each bag. And a calendar for 2013 ( that is new this year )

I try to give a "healthy" collection of sweets along with  the real treat.

This year was different.   Almost everyone smiled and said thank you. Some were very surprised at the size of the treat. Some were kind of excited and stepped right inside the house.  A couple refused to have their photo taken, but most just smiled...a couple said "cheese"  I am used to those cheesey smiles. I love them.

Other    comments:
WOW
You have a nice garden
I like your house
Hey, there is a story inside.
That is the best Mom
I am going to read the story   ( and that is what I love to hear )

For many years a family that we babysat, would come and have cider with us.  Sometimes all four of them. Then it would be two, or three.  Then one.  One and a friend.   Last year, I think they forgot.
But I decided to  make the cider anyway.      It came in handy when  I was runny out of treat bags.   I hurried up and made 10 more, grabbed a little mug of cider and answered the door bell again.

Then it happened.   I saw her standing there.    That middle aged lady with the not so cute outfit. And her waist was a little big,  well not exactly trim.    She looked alot like someone I know.
OH ! NO ! It was  me. I was looking in the mirror.     That was when I decided to leave the candy for the youngsters. I gave myself one more little sip of cider  ( for some reason, that is all that was left ).

And just to celebrate the final group of 5, before  shutting off the lights  ( not enough candy left to make a decent treat bag )  I allowed myself a smidgen of chocolate.

Now these little men did not come to my door, but we were at a party together yesterday and since they had the cutest smiles, I thought I would add them to my story. The little German lad ( with the stein treat bag )  is Sebastian and the fiesty Fireman is Tanner.

I live a very exciting life.

I have been waiting for this event since, well, May 30th. Because that is my birthday and Damon takes me to Top Pot for my birthday every year ( this is the second year)

The sign - Why do they say " please do not touch"? They know that someone will at least place her tiny little finger on part of it, they expect it. So did I?
Ask that tall dark and handsome guy who is sitting across from me.
