breakfast

when I think of breakfast
and my grandkids,
I think about my friend Marti
( Hi Marti, I know you are one of my most loyal fans )

Yes, this is not my usual breakfast for my little men, but it is a waffle. They are content with the frozen kind. In fact, they go to the freezer and pull out one or two ( always Eggo, but that is another story, you will have to ask about )  and head to the toaster.  Grammy helps with the "cooking"  and sets the table with honey, maple syrup and jam . Every hole needs to be full of something sweet.
( it is our secret, we don't tell mom )
I will always remember Marti saying that she happily prepared any breakfast she was asked for by each of her four children. Pancakes, waffles, french toast, you name it .   No regrets !

And we can't go back. So this Grammy is making the most of the moments with the people she loves most.

grandkids make me very rich

A message from my daughter who had been pretty sick with a cold.  ...

Last night Tanner was praying that I would feel better.

This morning...first thing he said "mommy...did Jesus do it?"

...I said what?

"Did Jesus answer my prayer...are u all better?!?"

Yes Tanner, I'm feeling so much better today!

All smiles!!!  All he could do was grin and smile!  He was so happy!

Love my boy!

( me too )

This is why I am rich !

After the party is over

 and, the party is over,
                  and many memories made.

           First ....which napkins.....

Then, which recipes to try.     Old friends, new oven, new recipes, here I come

First decision,..easy....my little man picked the one with red berries.  Nice.

  Chapter two.

I seldom serve appetizers.  They just spoil your appetite for the main meal. But I had some brie cheese and a recipe suggestion from my daughter, so I went for it.

Who or what can  I blame for a burnt to a crisp, quite sweet brie ?    Paul Deen  or my new stove. ( Or the timer that did not set itself).
OK, I don't like to serve appetizers anyway.

Chapter three

Little man is ready for his nap, so he did not stay for lunch. ( slipped right between Shirley's legs so fast no one noticed...hardly..well it was pretty cute )  After placing all the stuffed animals in the living room, under the tree, he gave hugs to all the ladies, twice and went home.

We all sat down to the table.....what?   where is the food?      Pea salad and fresh fruit   ( thank you  Liz and  Sally ) will not fill us up.
Three hot dishes were still in the kitchen.  Chicken in the oven.  Beets on the stove and rolls waiting to be warmed.
Let's just say the hostess was distracted by her little man.
And thankfully, two guest jumped up, after prayer, and helped served up the hot dishes.
Sorry to say the chicken dish was so piping hot that one guest burned her hand.
( I have Sulfadiazine  handy,these things happen )

Chapter four

Dessert. That's easy.  Easy recipe. quick bake. make ahead.
What?  Why is there so much extra filling?   Twice as much as I need for these little phyllo  pie tarts.  Good thing I have an extra box.  But why?  No Who?  Who changed the recipe from tablespoons to teaspoons !   At least 4 T. of brown sugar instead of 4 t. is not changing the flavor. And no one complained.  ( No one knew )

Chapter five.

Little man has another Grandma who sent this great tea towel.
Also  gifted with chocolates in a fun red dish , poinsettia, sparkling cider, Christmas CD,
gingerbread mat, holly soap and a fluffy red bird ornament .

I live an exciting life
I am blessed

You had to be there

The Garage sale of the Century
                          6 families
                                          3  car garage
                                                          and a trailer

We are ready !

well, we thought we were ready. The 3 car garage was full of tables and goods displayed for sale. And then someone we love came. He brought this trailer and it was full of stuff and no place to put it. He was backing up to the driveway and little man was standing at the end of the garage in surprise and wonder....out of his mouth....'What in the heck!"
( you had to be there )

Well, the trailer came back on Friday and opened up for business.

Speaking of Friday.. We were expecting another family to show up early. They had many items that needed to be marked. Etc.    When they finally arrived at noon, we found out why they were delayed.    Mom thought that she could get a job together for her Dad so he could be occupied during the garage sale.  This project was making a table into another serviceable item.  The table was under an aquarium.  While taking  the aquarium off the table it fell. It broke.  It cut her son’s hand. It spilled water and fish all over the carpet.  Now we know why they were delayed.
( you could have been  there )

The sale is on ...
Yes, the bedroom set sold, but the bassinet is still available !
Just give us a call .

It is our tradition to have delicious sandwiches for lunch.
Third name on the list takes care of that.

This year we had 11 hungry “workers”. About 8 more than usual. In fact, some of the helpers realized that they could take long breaks and not be missed. So, that is when they discovered “Chopped”.  On the food network.  Kind of addicting. ( don’t ask how I know ).  But, I have to tell you that Phyllo dough basket looked so adorable. Don’t know why it got the ax just because the chicken inside was pink.

But the garage TV set was on those soccer games.
And don’t ask me about them either.
I just know that it was 4 to one for the underdog.  Yeah!

There  are always fun times when our families get together with food. OK and grandkids
                                                    the entertainment is free
                                                   and easy !
You should have been there  !

We always have interesting customers.  We love them all.
                            You know what I mean.
There was one gal who was looking at a box of Fiesta pottery pieces.
Customer: " would you consider taking less for the Fiesta ?"
Barb: " Are you familiar with Fiesta Ware?
There are extra serving pieces along with  the place settings. There is more than just a place setting "
Customer: "a simple No would have worked."
She then turned her back and left.

Then there was the customer who came into our garage with a dozen chocolate chip cookies. Oh, that's right, it was Tiffany. She had been up the street to another garage sale and found those home made beauties and decided to treat all of us.

We also have a tradition to have dinner at Red Robin

                .

Need I say more? !
Oh right, you had to be there.
                                                  better yet,
You better be there next June.
Elk Run Community Garage Sale  !

My little men

It was an early start to the day
              and a sweet one.

doesn't take them long to start playing  .

and
then
comes
baking time

We are baking a little brownie to share
                                                    Watching the brownie rise

one seems to prefer milk and pouring milk
                                              the other prefers the brownie
You have to admit it is a fun tea set -
                                        Curious George

always a willing helper.      then it is outside we go

                               Time to help Grampy....
                                               Here we come Grampy...
Watching while Grampy puts nets over the fruit trees.
                                               And here comes Uncle D
Time to play with Uncle D.
That ball went so high..it landed up in the tree
               Time for a coffee break
real coffee and little short bread pups.

How did that lid get into Mom's coffee?

Busting some moves for Emily  and playing with Mr. Potato Head
                                              Thanks Emily.

                   Hungry again...........
That calls for a trip to
                                         The Burg

And now it is time to say goodbye
So, does it take 3 ( sometimes 4 ) adults to keep up with 2 little men under 4 years old?

Maybe not,  but I am always  glad to share the joy !
