A bit of advice

no this is not a PBP but it is amazing

A bit of advice. Well, something we have all heard. Always eat before you go grocery shopping. Especially if the store is on the same block as the D.Q. Then make sure you remember that you really did eat, even if you can't remember what it was that you ate. If that doesn't work, go ahead and get the PBP and just leave a little ice cream in the bottom. ( I learned that tip from French Women don't get Fat ) Whatever happened to her? I think she found out about PBP at the DQ. Can't blame her.

Sunset upon the Mediterranean

What will be remembered about you
about me
You know, beyond the sunset.
This year we have said goodbye to many friends. For two of them, it was too soon, they could not wait for God’s timing. For others, I was not ready to say goodbye. One was just an infant.
When Mike Kilcup was taken to meet Jesus – in his sleep-, Many things went through my mind.
I knew I wanted to go to his memorial
But why? Why do we go to funerals?
I did not know Mike very well.
But the family – so many members and many I do know so well, and love
Do we go to a funeral to see old friends?
To feel closure on a time of suffering ?
To comfort those who are grieving?
Mike’s memorial was one of the few I was able to attend.
Over 800 people came.
We were reminded to tell those we love, that we do love them.
( I hugged Judy on one side and Cindy on the other – I do love them both)
Two of the things I remember…
There were many young men wearing suits and ties. This reflection of respect was very touching. Mike had impressed these young men in a big way.
The message by his sister –
I'm sure you're familiar with the story of Jesus at the wedding in Canaan where He performs His first miracle. The servants at that wedding realized that they had a problem - the host had run out of wine! But really what they had was half of a miracle! They took their problem to Jesus and allowed Him to complete the miracle. So when we have a problem, we too, have half a miracle! We need to take the "half miracle" to Jesus, do what He asks, and watch how He completes it!
At a memorial, those whose lives were horribly and quickly taken at the Wal-Mart in Arizona, were honored by many. One of the speakers was The Secretary to the Home Land Security, Janet Napolitano. “At a time like this.. in a tragedy of such magnitude..there are no words we can use. We must turn to the scriptures.” She then read from Isaiah 40 verse one, Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
The next week Sargent Shriver died.
All I knew about him? Related to the Kennedy’s
But now I know he started the Peace Corp. And his family remembers ( one girl, 4 boys ) to show up in other people’s lives. To love unconditionally.

Those who knew Jimmy Kilcup will remember his little sayings. “Be a pillar, not a caterpillar.” “God doesn’t steer parked cars” “Don’t waste time! We’re getting to the end of the plank!”
So, again I ask myself, what will people remember about me?
What will they remember about you?

Picasso – Picasso – Picasso
Once in the life time exhibit to Seattle. How could I resist ? A quick message on facebook and my plans are in motion. Sure, I knew Jeanne would be jealous if I told her. So I did. And she just said she didn’t care, she was going to search Utila for Robinson Crusoe . ( When someone is 10,000 miles away they have to concoct big stories to make up for not being where they really want to be )
Back to Seattle. Gaylene was the first and then Laurie and we were ready. We were pretty excited and so were 100’s of other people at SAM. ( Seattle Art Museum ) When you enter, there is a magnificent display of cars, hanging from the ceiling and lights shooting out like sparklers. There are some very amazing displays. I would tell you about them, but if you go on the first Thursday of each month, you get free entry. So you should try to go yourself.
It is the special exhibits that have a price, on every day. Picasso is leaving. So I will tell you about it. Lots of pictures. Very colorful.
The best part? I can say that I went to the Picasso Exhibit!
Test? Do you know when he died? Do you know if he got married? How many times? ( that is a tricky one ) Had kids?
Well, I took some photos – not of the exhibit, that is not permitted. We ran into my cousin and his wife. You might think that photo is of Picasso, but Fred is actually much better looking than Pablo, despite the poor quality photo.

The "M" word

The “M” word . You probably know what I am talking about – unless maybe you are under 40. Well, that is what happened for me today. I go to the Evergreen hospital since they are the closest place for me. And because they have a great gift and coffee shop. I figure, when I get out of there, I deserve a treat. One year I found some very fun shoes. Another year I bought a scarf for me and a mug for my sister. And I always have coffee and biscotti.
You usually have a 20 to 30 minute wait, so I brought along a hemming project. ( I came home Sunday and looked in the mirror and said “that dress is too long”. No, I don’t have cute legs, but ankle length is so last year – last century!) There was a video playing in the waiting room. The Sound of Music. Who knew I would be sewing along with “so a needle pulling thread” . Well, it was at least 30 minutes and my hem that must be at least two yards around, is done! (actually 90 inches )
Well, for some reason, I could not find anything in the gift shop. Cork clogs? No thank you. And I brought a piece of Nita’s banana bread with me – it was great! So my treats came later.
An orchid at Trader Joe’s, a musical Charlie Brown Christmas ornament at Bartell’s, and a PBP at the DQ.
Not a bad morning after all.
